IULI student represents Indonesia in ASEAN event

15 December 2017 – From 10 to 13 December 2017 the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), in cooperation with Government of the Republic of Korea, held an event focusing on youth activism. The “ASEAN-ROK Youth Exchange Visit” brought together tens of Korean and ASEAN young minds in Siem Reap, Cambodia, for participation in an exchange of ideas on how the youth can contribute towards making the region a better place.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a 16-person strong delegation to the event including the Indonesian ASEAN Youth Ambassador (Banten), IULI’s very own Jessica Natalie. As it happened only two delegates had the opportunity to speak on behalf of Indonesia: Ms. Olivia Afina Sungkar (UMM Malang) and Jessica. During her session she shared Indonesia’s experience in nurturing youth leadership through government-led tech initiative; using City of Bandung’s iuran.id as a fitting example.

Jessica, who had just arrived back in Indonesia, described her participation as very engaging yet exciting. She enjoyed the discussions and sharing sessions, as well as the intercultural exchanges that naturally take place during such events.

The IULI International Relations Department compliments Ms. Natalie for the experience of representing her country internationally; the Department is proud to call Jessica and her friends its own. Once again IULI International Relations students proved that despite all odds, they can make contributions that are truly newsworthy and not run-of-the-mill class activities. (SaK)
