From the 8-12 February, Raditya (sem. 6 INE) and Sahil (sem 4 MEE) competed against the best debaters from premier universities in the ASEAN area in the Binus International English competition. It was an amazing experience and it was their first time in any kind of debate competition. On the first day, they were up against last year’s winners from Korea!! They also realised that they would have to change their style. On the second day they finished first, first and first in their three rounds. On the final day, they were directly up against the eventual winners from UNS (Singapore) and exited in the quarter finals. In each round the winners got 3 points, runners up 2 points and third 1 points. From 6 rounds, Sahil and Raditya accumulated 12 points, which is a fine result for any competitors, let alone first timers like them.
Radtya said, “It was a wonderful learning experience competing with the best and having to prepare under severe time pressure”. Sahil said, “It was terrifying and stimulating at the same time”. Both said, “Bring on the next competition!”
Well done, Sahil and Raditya, IULI is proud of you.
